You: Create – really simple, but very functional

September 16, 2010

Here it is Thursday already! Time for my entry to…

I am really trying to force myself to spend time being creative. One wouldn’t think that I should have to force myself to be creative! Getting started is what is hard. It felt so good to sit at the sewing machine! (Even though I was only there for about 5 minutes!)

What was I creating?

Something really simple, but very functional: A hanging bag for clothes pins.

A completed clothes pin bag made from a little kids shirt

I started with a little kids shirt (did they really used to fit something that small!?) I sewed together a portion of the front and then sewed the bottom of the shirt closed. Five minutes of sewing (including changing the thread color).

Then I had to hunt for a wooden hanger. I noticed that I needed to saw a bit off the ends of the hanger because it was too long in the sleeves.

The wooden hanger is too long for my clothes pin bag - it peeks out of the sleeves of my little kids shirt.

So I got out the saw – which required some more hunting! See that cobweb on the blade?

Next, I stuffed her full of clothes pins and tried her out!

Yeah! I no longer have to bend over to fetch a few pins! (And I am loving being able to hang out clothes at our new place!)

What were you creative at this week?

A quiltaway (otherwise known as a give-away)!

September 5, 2010

I’ve just “met” someone named Cecily. (well, we haven’t even been introduced! You know how it goes in the blogging world.) Cecily started a blog for kind of the same reason that I did. Why do I mention her? Cecily is giving away a quilt! And posting about it is one of the ways to enter to win this beauty… So of course I’ll take this opportunity to point out someone else who is capable and creative!

Isn’t it pretty?!

Even the back is beautiful…

You:Create… Just so something is posted…

September 3, 2010

Ok, here I go…

To start of this blog (this place where I am posting just to remind myself that I am capable and creative) I thought that I’d post a couple of pictures of a prayer quilt that I made in early spring 2009.  It was made for a young man who had suffered a severe brain injury.  I saw him a few days ago.  It was a miracle that he survived his injury!   And today he is a delightful young man!

(Praise God!)

Working on a prayer quilt

My cat Nils always helps me with my quilting projects.

A bunch of quilting buddies helped me to sew the binding on this quilt.  (I’m not good at hand sewing due to arthritis in my hands.) Thanks quilting friends!

Another photo of the finished project…

He was a musician, thus the musical fabric.

I need to get back into quilting!
